In the May 3, 2025, local elections in Grapevine, Texas, two significant positions were decided, bringing changes to both the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (GCISD) Board and the Grapevine City Council.
Matt Foust emerged victorious over incumbent Tammy Nakamura for the GCISD Board of Trustees Place 3 seat. Foust secured 51.34% of the votes, totaling 6,016, while Nakamura received 5,701 votes, accounting for 48.66%. The race remained close until the final precincts reported in Tarrant County, tipping the balance in Foust’s favor.
Foust has been actively involved in the district, serving in various Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) roles, including as legislative chair, and participating on the Advisory Committee during the 2024 bond election.
In the race for the Grapevine City Council Place 4 seat, Sean Shope won decisively against Brandon Rener. Shope garnered 67.34% of the votes, with 3,593 ballots cast in his favor, while Rener received 1,743 votes, representing 32.66%.
The Place 4 seat was previously held by Darlene Freed, who announced in January that she would not seek re-election after serving on the council since 1998.
Upon his victory, Shope expressed gratitude, stating, “I am so grateful, humbled and excited to be elected to City Council. We have a great council that serves a great city. It is such an honor to be part of this group. I am blessed by so many people who have invested in, helped and encouraged me.”
Including early voting ballots, a total of 98,564 ballots were cast in Tarrant County during this election, representing 7.99% of the county’s 1.23 million registered voters.
These results reflect the community’s active participation in shaping the leadership of their local education system and city governance.
