On March 18, 2025, the Grapevine City Council approved an annual contribution of $19,000 to the Northeast Tarrant County Area SWAT Team (NETCAST), reaffirming its commitment to regional public safety. This funding is part of a collaborative effort among the cities of Grapevine, Euless, Bedford, and Hurst, each allocating up to $19,000 annually to support NETCAST’s operations, which include training, equipment procurement, and other operational costs.
Established in 2012, NETCAST serves a 72-square-mile area encompassing the four participating cities. The team comprises eight operators and four crisis negotiators from each city, led by a commander and three assistant commanders. This regional approach allows for shared resources and reduced overall costs while enhancing the capabilities of local law enforcement agencies.
NETCAST is equipped to handle various high-risk situations, including hostage rescues, barricaded persons, high-risk search or arrest warrants, riots, disturbances, and dignitary protection. The team also provides support during special events, such as festivals on Grapevine’s Main Street. To maintain readiness, NETCAST personnel undergo 16 hours of monthly training in tactics and firearms, supplemented by an annual week-long training session with external instructors at locations like Fort Cavazos or Fort Hood.
The allocated funds from Grapevine’s crime control and prevention budget will be utilized for various needs, including uniforms, ammunition, ballistic helmets, gas masks, communication supplies, and medical equipment. This investment ensures that NETCAST remains well-prepared to respond effectively to critical incidents across the region.
By continuing its support for NETCAST, the Grapevine City Council underscores its dedication to maintaining public safety and fostering collaboration among neighboring communities.
