The Flower Mound Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended denying a proposal from Realty Capital to develop a 21-acre tract into Lakeside East, an expansion of Lakeside DFW. The commission voted 4-2 against recommending both a master plan amendment and rezoning during its March 24 meeting.
The proposal from Irving-based Realty Capital aimed to add up to 326 multifamily residential units and no more than 250,000 square feet of commercial space to the area. Despite the commission’s recommendation, the proposal will still be considered by the Town Council.
Commissioners Scott Jostes and Gregory Schultz voted against the recommendation of denial. The commission’s concerns centered around the potential impact on traffic and existing infrastructure.
The Lakeside East proposal has been a topic of discussion among Flower Mound residents, with opinions divided on the potential benefits and drawbacks of the development. Some residents expressed concerns about increased traffic and strain on local resources, while others highlighted the potential for economic growth and increased housing options.
The Town Council is expected to review the proposal in an upcoming meeting, where they will consider the commission’s recommendation and public feedback before making a final decision.
