In a significant move to bolster emergency services in the rapidly growing western region of Flower Mound, the Town Council has approved a $1.08 million contract for the design of a new permanent Fire Station No. 6. The decision was made during the council meeting on April 7, 2025, marking a pivotal step in enhancing the town’s public safety infrastructure.
The contract has been awarded to Martinez Architects, a firm renowned for its expertise in designing municipal facilities. The new station is planned to be situated at 6801 Canyon Falls Drive, strategically located to serve the expanding communities in the area. This development comes in response to the town’s anticipated population growth, with projections estimating an increase from the current 80,000 residents to approximately 110,000 in the coming years.
Currently, Fire Station No. 6 operates out of a temporary facility on Stonecrest Road, which was established in 2017 to address immediate needs. However, the temporary station lacks the capacity to accommodate the growing demands of the community. The new permanent station will feature enhanced facilities, including expanded dormitories, larger equipment bays, and improved living quarters for the firefighters.
Fire Chief Paul Henley emphasized the importance of this project, stating that the new station will significantly improve response times and operational efficiency. “As our community grows, it’s imperative that our emergency services infrastructure keeps pace to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents,” Henley remarked.
Funding for the design phase is part of a broader financial strategy, with the town planning to issue Certificates of Obligation totaling $20 million to cover the full construction costs of the station. This approach allows the town to commence preliminary work, such as land acquisition and engineering surveys, ahead of the bond issuance.
Mayor Derek France expressed his support for the project, highlighting its role in maintaining the town’s high standards for public safety. “Investing in our emergency services is not just about infrastructure; it’s about ensuring that every resident feels secure and protected,” France stated.
The new Fire Station No. 6 is expected to be operational within the next few years, aligning with the town’s strategic plan to accommodate future growth and development.
