June 12, 2025 In a major stride toward expanding community spaces, the Celina City Council has approved an $11.87 million contract with a yet-to-be-disclosed contractor for Phase 1 of the $50.8 million Wilson Creek Park project.
The 100-acre park located at the future intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Roseland Parkway will serve as a comprehensive recreational hub. This initial phase focuses on essential infrastructure: earthwork, utilities, pathways, parking lots, and lighting, as well as the construction of multipurpose sports facilities, playgrounds, restrooms, and concession buildings.
Key amenities included in Phase 1:
The total project budget stands at approximately $50.75 million, with the entirety of construction anticipated to wrap up by May 2026. The park is scheduled to open to the public in summer 2026.
Phase 1’s commencement is a critical first step toward fully realizing the master plan officially adopted on July 11, 2023. The plan was shaped through an inclusive public feedback process and includes features such as multi-use fields (for soccer, football, cricket), lighted courts (pickleball, tennis, basketball), batting cages, a pond, trails, an amphitheater, and future amenities like a dog park and splash pad.
The park’s strategic location adjacent to a forthcoming Celina ISD elementary school and future fire station underscores its role as a central recreational anchor within a growing residential community.
Councilmembers have indicated that park funding is part of an upcoming municipal bond package. The issuance will be scheduled to align with the city’s capital improvement plan, which has earmarked over $757 million in projects through 2029.
What’s next?
As Celina continues to fast-track infrastructure, Wilson Creek Park is poised to become a vibrant community epicenter offering diverse recreation, connectivity, and family programming.
