In the May 3, 2025, McKinney mayoral election, none of the four candidates secured a majority, leading to a runoff between Bill Cox and Scott Sanford scheduled for June 7.

According to unofficial results from Collin County, Cox, a realtor and former city council member, led with 46.79% of the vote (8,953 votes), while Sanford, a pastor and former Republican state representative, followed with 40.81% (7,810 votes). The runoff election is set for Saturday, June 7, with early voting taking place from May 27 to 31 and June 2 to 3.

Cox emphasized his “hands-on” experience in local government, highlighting his role as chairman of McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission. Sanford, on the other hand, expressed a desire to “build a bridge” between residents and local government, aiming to reconnect the community with city hall.

The winner of the runoff will succeed Mayor George Fuller, who is term-limited after serving eight years.

In other election outcomes, Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Geré Feltus leads in her bid to retain the District 3 council seat with 54% of the vote. Additionally, the at-large council race is heading to a runoff between Ernest Lynch and Jim Garrison, who received 29% and 20% of the vote, respectively.

Voter turnout for the election was approximately 11% of Collin County’s 740,500 registered voters, with around 67% of votes cast early and the remainder on Election Day.
