The City of Frisco is taking the next step toward constructing a new police shooting range and training facility, following the Frisco City Council’s July 2 approval of an agreement that allows design and engineering work to begin.
The facility will be built on a 22.5-acre site near Rockhill Parkway and FM 423, a location chosen for its accessibility and distance from residential areas. City officials say the new range is essential to meet the growing needs of the Frisco Police Department, especially as the city’s population continues to rise.
Currently, Frisco police officers use an outdoor range in McKinney or partner with other cities for training time—an arrangement that has become increasingly difficult to manage.
City documents describe the future site as a comprehensive law enforcement training center that would provide:
Officials say the facility will help ensure that officers have consistent access to high-quality training close to home, which is vital for both readiness and public safety.
The approved $1.3 million contract with BRW Architects allows design work to begin immediately. The planning phase will include:
City leaders emphasized that the design will focus on minimizing noise for surrounding areas and ensuring that safety remains a top priority.
While no firm construction timeline has been set, the city expects to present a completed design in the coming months. Once plans are finalized and approved, construction will move forward based on available funding and permitting.
As Frisco continues to grow, this facility is seen as a necessary investment to maintain high standards of officer training, safety, and public service.
