Plano and the Plano Independent School District (PISD) have recently announced several significant developments impacting education, business, and community planning.

1. PISD Proposes 3% Salary Increase for Educators

At the April 8 school board meeting, PISD officials recommended a 3% salary increase for teachers, librarians, and nurses for the 2025–26 academic year. This adjustment would raise the starting teacher salary by $1,200, bringing it to $62,200 annually. The proposed raises are projected to cost the district approximately $11.06 million.

2. Surge in Corporate Office Leases

Plano’s business landscape is experiencing notable growth, with over ten companies securing leases for corporate offices or headquarters in the first quarter of 2025. Among these, Sally Business Holdings has leased a 140,000-square-foot space for its headquarters, signaling a robust economic expansion in the region.

3. Expansion Plans for Legacy West

Legacy West, a prominent mixed-use development in northwest Plano, is set to expand its open spaces. The proposed enhancements aim to provide additional communal areas, further enriching the urban experience for residents and visitors alike.

4. PISD Declares Three Facilities as Surplus

In a move to optimize resources, PISD has designated Armstrong Middle School, Davis Elementary School, and Forman Elementary School as surplus properties. These schools are scheduled to close after the 2024–25 academic year, and the district anticipates generating approximately $13 million from their sale.

5. Plano Prepares for Severe Weather with Emergency Shelter

In anticipation of severe weather conditions, the city of Plano has opened an overnight warming shelter at the East Plano Islamic Center, located at 4700 14th Street. This facility offers a safe haven for unhoused individuals during periods of dangerously inclement weather.
