April 11, 2025 | McKinney, Texas — Collin College has been awarded a $1.3 million Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), aimed at expanding workforce training opportunities across North Texas. The funding will support customized skills training for more than 840 new and current employees from 11 regional companies.

The initiative is designed to address evolving industry needs, with a focus on high-demand sectors such as advanced manufacturing, robotics, and logistics. By offering specialized training programs, Collin College will help businesses enhance employee skills, improve productivity, and stay competitive in a rapidly changing economic landscape.

A formal announcement was made during an award ceremony on April 9, attended by Collin College District President Dr. Neil Matkin, TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III, and Phedra Redifer, executive director of Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas.

“This grant is not just an investment in training—it’s an investment in the people who power our regional economy,” said Commissioner Treviño. “Through partnerships like this, we’re strengthening the talent pipeline and equipping Texans with the skills they need to succeed.”

The training, which will be delivered through Collin College’s Workforce and Economic Development division, underscores the college’s ongoing commitment to connecting education with real-world workforce needs.
